How We Test & Score

What goes into an editorial score — and what never does.

Editorial policy
  • Prices from the source

We record each plan's intro price, renewal price and billing term from the provider's own pricing page, with the date we checked and a link to it. The 3-year true cost is calculated from those figures.

  • Speed & uptime

Scored only from monitoring we run or published third-party data we can cite. Where we have no measurements, we publish no score.

  • Support & ease of use

We assess the support channels and hours a provider documents and the setup steps for a typical first website.

  • Value for money

Weighed on renewal pricing and the 3-year true cost, not the headline intro rate.

  • Independent ranking

Rankings follow the editorial score. Affiliate commissions never change a score or a position.

Frequently Asked Questions

How our reviews and scores work.

View All FAQs
How do you review hosting providers?
Each score combines pricing (including renewals), documented features, support and, only where we have measurements we can cite, speed and uptime. The full process is described in How We Test & Score and our editorial policy.
Can I trust user reviews?
Visitor reviews are published only after moderation and are shown separately from the editorial score. We never type in review counts or ratings; the numbers are computed from the published reviews.
Are these reviews unbiased?
Rankings follow the editorial score. We may earn a commission from some providers, but commissions never change a score, a ranking position or whether a provider is listed.
Do you test customer support?
We assess the support channels and hours a provider documents and record our own contact tests where we have them. Scores without a sourced record are not published.
How often are reviews updated?
Prices carry the date they were last checked. Scores are revisited when a provider changes its plans, pricing or terms.
Which hosting provider is best for beginners?
Look for a high ease-of-use score, a free domain and SSL, and a renewal price you can live with. The #1 provider in the ranking is the best all-round pick; the Best Value label marks the cheapest over 3 years.
